Low End Theory Wednesdays

Low End Theory Wednesdays is a weekly hip hop show at the Airliner in Los Angeles. I attended the hip hop show for my first time a month ago and was pleasantly surprised at the size of the venue and the performances. The in house DJ's such as Daddy Kev and D-Styles, chose to do away with conventionality and made beats on the spot rather than just playing records. Nocando, The host of the show, even freestyle'd to the tracks that DJ Daddy Kev was spinning to entertain the crowd while they waited.

People who attend Low End Theory are avid hip hop heads who are ready and willing to embrace any brand of good hip hop music. There were two performances who stood out to me the most, Homeboy Sandman and Open Mike Eagle. A friend I came with is a fan of Homeboy Sandman and asked him to perform one of his old songs called Lightning Bolt. Homeboy Sandman performed a couple of songs then stopped to address the crowd and say "I usually don't do this song at shows because it's a little more conscious but a fan requested it..." Little did he know that his old song would be his most turnt up and have the crowd jumping up and down screaming "LIGHTNING LIGHTNING BOLT!"

Open Mike Eagle also stood out to me because of how well he connected with the crowd on the song Nightmares. The performance was a mixture of rapping and a raspy singing voice that combined to make a smooth melodic sound, that was soulful and poetic.

My first experience at the Low End Theory  was more than I could have ever expected. This venue is filled with originality from the acts, to the DJ's who spin their own music that they make from scratch before your eyes. Not to mention that it's where Tyler the Creator and Odd Future had their first show.

Throwback

When I was stationed at Fort Polk, LA I met all sorts of people from around the country. Two years ago in December I spent half of my block leave with my friend Keith from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He showed me a great time and what true southern hospitality is about. After my stint there I went back home to Los Angeles and got acquainted with some old familiar faces. Enjoy the photos I got from these two trips.

Somewhere out in Fullerton

My friend and I decided to go to downtown Fullerton last Wednesday to grab a few brews. Downtown Fullerton (DTF) is also known for being a beautiful place so I decided to bring my camera along to capture the night. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from if you ever make your way to Orange County. More pictures coming soon, enjoy!
